BLUE RIDGE INDUSTRIES REDUCING GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS BY CHOOSING DOW’S LOMAX™ TECHNOLOGY
Ellijay, GA . . . Blue Ridge Industries will partner with Dow Chemical Company’s LOMAX™ Technology to produce its Power Lock™ RE High Performance Backing, a proven, innovative backing with a minimum of 10% total product post consumer recycled content.
LOMAX™ Technology uses landfill gas as renewable energy source for the manufacture of latex used in carpet backings. Blue Ridge becomes one of a few elite commercial carpet manufacturers to offer this sustainable carpet backing technology. In addition to utilizing recycled content, the Power Lock RE backing system is now specifically targeting a growing area of concern, which is the reduction of CO2 emissions.
While contributing to Blue Ridge’s current Eco-Nomics™ Environmental Stewardship Program, Dow’s LOMAX™ Technology reduces greenhouse emissions by approximately 25 million pounds annually. In just the first month of operation, this technology is allowing Dow to replace more than 90% of our fossil fuel requirements in the manufacturing of latex carpet backings at the Dalton, GA Emulsion Polymers Plant. “This project to use landfill gas as a renewable energy source has exceeded all of our expectations”, said Todd Crook, Dow Emulsion Polymers Flooring Leader.
“We are extremely pleased to be one of a select group of manufacturers to partner with Dow to use LOMAX™ Technology,” said Mike Gallman, President of Blue Ridge Industries. “This is another step in contributing to our commitment of sustainable development and environmental responsibility.”
Architects and Designers have long known Dow Chemical for innovation and technology and now we really want to highlight some of the sustainable chemistries and processes that we are utilizing to make a positive impact on the environment. LOMAX™ Technology is a perfect example of how performance and sustainability come together,” said Todd Crook.
